It’s coming along!
Alright, we’ve made some good progress on the site. I took the Paalam Theme I found in WordPress Theme Viewer and made a lot of customizations to work for us, and then I installed the NextGen Gallery plug-in for the pictures. NextGen is really awesome in that it is completely WordPress-integrated image management suite and it is really easy to work with. There are a few convenience features missing, but once you get the workflow down, it’s not so bad. I felt pretty good whipping out my good ‘ole PHP skills to get the theme and plug-in (both open source) edited to suit our exact needs, and I’m pretty excited about the results! We have a few more tweaks to make, which I’ll document below, but I hope you enjoy the results so far!
Upcoming Features:
- Sidebar slideshow displays images from ALL albums
- Tweak the design of the Slideshow View / List View links… they look out of place
- (?) Can we add captions in the NextGen slideshow?
- Make the sidebar slideshow more subtle with 15sec fade in/out transitions
- Create dynamic header images that randomly switch on day
- Figure out a sleek way to post videos
- Much more!
